Q + A

Do I need a passport to travel to Vietnam?

Yes

Do I need to apply for a visa to travel to Vietnam?

Probably yes, please check the "Travel Checklist" tab

Where should I fly to?

Your current location matters. If you're in Canada, you'll likely need to book transit flights to reach Saigon (HCMC). Some routes we recommend: 1) Transit in Taipei (Taiwan) > HCMC 2) Transit in Seoul (South Korea) > HCMC; 3) Transit in Tokyo (Japan) > HCMC; If you like, you could even buy "multi-city" tickets and make your transit a little longer - spend some days in one of those lovely cities before going to your destination.

When should I arrive in Vietnam?

If possible, come to Vietnam early to explore many interesting things about this lovely country, from the beautiful scenery to the delicious local food; also, to get over your jetlag and regain your energy for our wedding!

What will the weather be like?

Warm sunshine and very little rain. March is one of the most comfortable times to travel in Ho Chi Minh City. The temperature will be around 25°C to 34°C. Keep in mind that it is quite humid! Be ready to sweat and embrace the tropical air.

Where should I stay in Saigon?

We recommend staying in Districts 1 and 3 (or at Mai House - the wedding venue, with a group booking discount as provided on the "Travel Checklist" page). It is convenient to go around by Grab/XanhSM/Taxi, or even on foot. You may admire the chaotic but charming Saigon city center with a blend of French and Vietnamese architecture.

What apps should I download?

Google Translate for language. Google Maps for navigation. Grab and/or XanhSM for transportation. They are the South East Asian versions of Uber / Lyft. If you feel adventurous, try “Xe Ôm” - Grab Bike (instead of Grab Car). “Xe" means “vehicle" and “ôm" means “hug". You don't need to hug the driver though, it's just a suggestion ;)

This is my first time in Vietnam / attending a Vietnamese wedding, what do I need to know?

Be YOU. Wear the biggest smile and lots of energy to have fun with us on our wedding day. We can't wait to celebrate our love with you. But if you really do want to charm us, practice this in Vietnamese: “Trăm năm hạnh phúc!” (“Wishing you a hundred years of happiness"). By the way: a tip for first-timers - DON'T drink tap water in Vietnam / South East Asia, please!

Whom should I contact with questions?

Please send any questions to our wedding planner team: Yen's email (wedding planner): yenphan@merakiwp.com or Trang’s email (wedding planner): trangdang@merakiwp.com
